Volkswagen Tiguan vs Competition

Versatility and Quality - Two Winning Traits of the Volkswagen Tiguan vs. the Competition

Shopping for a new SUV in the Des Plaines and Palatine area can lead to a confusing and dizzying array of options. It seems as if every dealership and every brand has a compact crossover option that they claim is the best around. But at Volkswagen of Mount Prospect, where we count the world-class VW Tiguan SUV among our available options, we don't just claim our SUV is the best. We prove it.

We've done our research and we've taken a close-up, in-depth look at the new Tiguan against some of its main competitors. The answers are clear. To learn more about what makes our model better over the competition read on, and to see some of the stellar, available Volkswagen Tiguan models we have in stock, take a closer look at our current new vehicle inventory.

Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Ford Escape

Similar in size, both of these four-door, compact SUVs appeal to Illinois drivers who like SUV style but who prefer their vehicles smaller and easy to park. They have a lot in common on the surface, but when you dive a little deeper, you find a number of ways in which our Tiguan comes out ahead.

  • Third row available. Having a third row in your compact SUV may not be something you need all the time, but it can sure come in handy when you do need it. With the Volkswagen Tiguan, you can choose either two-row or three-row seating, which makes it a versatile and family-friendly option when compared to the Ford Escape, which is strictly a two-row model with seating for five.
  • Power. Enjoy a ride that's more engaging and responsive in the Volkswagen Tiguan when compared to the competition. The Tiguan standard engine is a nice, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain that produces 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. It also has an eight-speed automatic transmission and your pick of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The standard engine for the Ford Escape, meanwhile, is only a three-cylinder engine, and it produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque.
  • Features. When it comes to pampering you and your passengers, the VW Tiguan also has more of the features and amenities you want than the Ford Escape. For example, our SUV comes with standard windshield washer nozzles that are heated, standard keyless ignition and entry, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among others, none of which are standard on the Ford SUV.

Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Hyundai Tucson

Another popular choice that may be vying for your attention, the Hyundai Tucson is also a compact model with four doors and two rows of seats. Check out the inside scoop that we dug up, however, to learn more about what makes our SUV the better choice for your needs.

  • Three-row seating. Once again, the Tiguan is the only SUV in this comparison to offer the available third row of seating. Perfect for when you have a few extra friends, this feature makes the Tiguan more versatile and adaptable to your needs than the Hyundai Tucson.
  • Comfort and tech amenities. From Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, the in-vehicle Wi-Fi capability, the Volkswagen Tiguan has more tech features standard than the Hyundai Tucson. The Tucson lineup starts you off with a modest list of features, and you have to move up in trims to get more, but the Tiguan gives them all to you up front, right at the entry-level trim.
  • Safety features. As with the tech amenities, the Tiguan also has more standard safety features and advanced driver's aids than the Tucson. For example, our SUV has standard blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert, which are not standard features for the Hyundai Tucson.
