Trim Levels
The Volkswagen Taos comes in three trim levels. The base model is the S. The SE is the mid-level trim, and the SEL tops the line.
The S includes 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and LED headlights for a sporty exterior appearance. The interior has Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and onboard Wi-Fi. A 6.5-inch touchscreen is standard, supporting a premium sound system with four speakers.
Next in line, the SE builds on what the S offers. The SE upgrades to larger 18-inch alloy wheels. It also has heated side mirrors and tinted rear windows. A hands-free entry system is a welcome convenience for times when your hands are full, and the SE also has remote engine start. The interior has some upgrades, too, including heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The seats are made of synthetic leather with this trim. The SE upgrades to a six-speaker sound system, and it also adds USB ports in the back row and wireless phone charging.
The SEL is the top trim in the Taos lineup. The SEL has even larger 19-inch wheels. Its exterior gains an illuminated grille bar, adaptive headlights, and headlights with automatic high beams. Rain-sensing wipers are also included, and the SEL has a panoramic sunroof. The cabin features heated and ventilated seats that are made of leather. The digital instrument display is also larger in this model, and it is equipped with navigation. The sound system also gets a boost with eight speakers. The steering wheel is heated for comfortable driving year-round.
Interior and Exterior
The Volkswagen Taos has a roomy, spacious, and comfortable interior. The Taos has a cabin that is impressive for its small size, with generous passenger space and large door openings so that even larger occupants feel comfortable getting into and out of the vehicle. Outward visibility is also exceptional from the cabin, and the controls are easy to reach and use. There is plenty of technology and safety aids, even at the base level.
Performance
Performance is the same for the Taos no matter which model you get. All trims are powered by a turbo 1.5-liter engine with four-cylinders. This engine produces up to 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. You have the option between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive models have an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the all-wheel drive versions have a dual-clutch automatic transmission to improve handling as you're going around turns in Arlington Heights.
Technology/Features
There are many standard technology features in the Volkswagen Taos, and the controls are simple to use. The Taos uses a BeatsAudio® system that has a rich sound quality and good bass. Onboard navigation is another handy feature with the Taos, and navigation maps are easy to see on the driver's gauge cluster. The car is also equipped with USB ports for device charging on the road. A 12-volt power outlet and wireless charger are other helpful features.
Safety
Standard safety aids in the Taos include blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning, along with forward collision warning that has automatic braking. An optional IQ.DRIVE safety package adds lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and emergency assistance in case the car detects that the driver is unresponsive.
