What's New
The big item for the new 2024 model year is the arrival of numerous driver assistance systems as standard features. Every trim level now has packages with emergency automatic braking and semi-autonomous driving. Many convenience and comfort features are also now standardized on the lower trims.
Drivers will also enjoy the styling updates. Volkswagen continues to borrow more elements from the company's Audi cousins. Consequently, the new Jetta is one of the sportiest-looking versions in the lineup's decades-long history.
Trim Options
The Jetta's S trim is the entry-level option for budget-minded drivers. The Sport is an excellent choice for a more stylish and darker-looking design. The SE is the more feature-rich mid-level trim, and the SEL is the top-tier version.
Notably, the S and Sport are the two trims with a manual transmission option. Especially in light of the declining availability of daily drivers with manuals in the US market, the Jetta will have special appeal to a breed of motorist. All four trims are also available as automatics.
Exterior
The Jetta has a sporty appearance that maintains a traditional design. It features a wide grille and two sizeable sets of horizontal headlamps. The upturned air dam gives every Jetta a knowing smile. In profile, the Jetta favors curves and contours over straight lines. It is a four-door sedan that favors tasteful chrome accents. You can choose from six paint colors for the exterior.
16-inch wheels are standard for the S trim. 17-inch wheels are available on the three higher trims.
Interior
You will quickly appreciate the roominess of the 2024 Jetta. It comfortably seats five people. The interior styling has an angular and futuristic bent. Silver accents give form to even the most mundane components. A panoramic sunroof is optionally available, too. The trunk provides 1.1 cubic feet of storage space.
Four interior color and material combinations are available. You can choose a cloth interior in black or gray. There is also a leather option in either black or brown.
Performance
Every Jetta employs a 1.5-liter engine that sips gas. The inline four-cylinder motor with a turbo produces 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Every Jetta comes with front-wheel drive.
Using the eight-speed automatic transmission, the Jetta gets 30 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. With the six-speed manual, those numbers shift to 29 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. Using a 13.2-gallon fuel tank, the Jetta can achieve ranges over 550 miles during road trips.
Technology
The three lower trims feature an eight-inch digital instrument cluster displaying speed, fuel, and performance info. Upgrading to the SEL nets a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The lower trims all employ a 6.5-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system. If you move up to the SEL, you will get an eight-inch display. All trims support connectivity to phones through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety
Loads of safety technologies are standard across the lineup. These include blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross-traffic warnings and lane-keeping. The Jetta also has a ventilated four-wheel ABS that includes drying to maximize stopping power.
